We are a Christian outreach ministry of Livonia Community Church, seeking to raise up martial arts leaders who’s hearts and minds are focused on mastery of both their physical wellbeing and their walk with the LORD Jesus Christ; the outcome of which, through such discipline, will be the creation of shepherds able to defend both their faith in Jesus Christ as well as their physical bodies, while protecting those who cannot protect themselves, and teaching those seeking to grow. This will advance the Kingdom of God into our community, causing revival in the hearts and minds of those who know Him and give a visible example to those seeking to know the LORD.
The Commander of the Lord’s Army
In Joshua 5:13-15, we find Joshua leading the people of Israel. As he was approaching the city of Jericho, a stronghold of their enemies, he saw a man standing before him with a drawn sword in his hand. On our patch, you will see a representation of this sword drawn man in the center. Joshua approached this man and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” The answer from this sword drawn man was simple and profound. He simply said. “No; but I am the commander of the army of the LORD. Now I have come.”
This answer is profound because it was simple and straight to the point. This man, the commander of the army of the LORD was not interested in the personal or civil disputes of that generation, hence His answer of “No”, but was only focused upon that which He was there to do, and as the commander of the army of the LORD, He was there to advance the Kingdom of God, not the agendas of man.
Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?” And the commander of the LORD’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
Now the identity of this Commander of the Army is revealed. You see Joshua recognized immediately that this was none other than the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY Himself.
We know that based upon Joshua’s reaction and the LORD’s response. We can use the Bible to determine this, as we see in Exodus 3:3-5.
3 And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” 4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”
In both instances, God required these men to remove their sandals for they were standing on holy ground, so we can tell through the context who this Commander is, and it is the LORD Himself.
Our patch represents the principles herein. We recognize the full authority of the Lord Jesus Christ to be absolutely authoritative, and we find the principles which we live by in the Word of God, the HOLY BIBLE.
Like Joshua, we have given up searching out our own agendas, or desires to participate in the matters of civil or cultural disputes to focus upon the agenda of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Commander of the LORD’s army, in order to see the Kingdom of God advance.
Like the Commander of the LORD’s army, we will not compromise in our commitment to serving Him, and we will not compromise with sin. This is why we are called No Compromise Martial Arts. We stand upon Biblical principles.
